Mud - Balneotherapy
the therapeutic mud of abano terme
The thermal water of Abano Terme
The waters of the Euganean Thermal Basin begin their journey from the Lessini Mountains, in the Pre-Alps, and flow into the subsoil at a depth ranging from 2000 to 3000 meters.
This particular hyper thermal water makes a journey of about 80 km in 25-30 years before arriving in Abano Terme. During this long journey, the high depth at which water flows through the limestone causes it to be enriched with mineral salts and acquire an extremely high temperature.
The thermal water flows from our wells in Abano Terme at a temperature between 80 ° C and 87 ° C and the richness of substances dissolved in it makes it unique in the world
The thermal mud and the maturation process
Inside our establishments there are the so-called ripening tanks, where the thermal mud (composed of natural clay) is left to mature for 3 to 8 months, immersed in the thermal water that is constantly run at a temperature of about 80 ° C.
The high temperature, the chemical constituents of the water and the contact with the air and the sun modify the chemical-physical structure of the thermal mud, influencing the development of microalgae and increasing its plasticity as well as the heat retention index.
This thermal stress to which the mud is subjected promotes the development of microorganisms (diatoms), associated with therapeutic anti-inflammatory and analgesic action.
WHAT WE CURE AND PREVENT

The Mud - Balneotherapy session
Our Thermal Establishment consists of a Department dedicated to spa treatments under the supervision of a Health Director, Dr. Fabiano ANTONELLO, a medical expert in thermals and osteopaths. He will visit you and indicate your personalized therapeutic path:
1st Step -> Medical Examination: the Medical Director reviews the medical conditions of each patient, provides a medical history, assesses which parts of the body will be treated with the mud, at what temperature and for how long. All necessary and fundamental data for the spa operators who will then physically take care of you during the whole therapy period.
2 ° Step -> Application of thermal mud and bath with ozone: The application of the mud and the thermal bath with ozone are carried out in the morning. The specialized operators, upon indication of the doctor, distribute the mud on the area to be treated at a temperature ranging from 40 ° to 45 ° C. Each application lasts 20min on average.
Once the mud-phase is over, it is washed with a thermal shower and the thermal bath is performed with ozone. The bath has a temperature ranging between 35 ° and 38 ° C depending on the medical indications. The balneotherapy associated with ozone, gas that is mixed in the whirlpool, further promotes muscle relaxation and improves lymphatic and blood circulation. Given the composition of water, it creates specific hormonal, biochemical and neurovegetative stimuli that complete the therapeutic action.
3rd Step -> Sweat reaction: After the thermal mud and the balneotherapy the patient is advised to make a relaxing break for about 30min. before performing massage or therapy. During this break the biological reactions induced by mud-balneotherapy continue.
4th Step -> Massotherapy: Massage therapy is an extremely personalized passage, it can be of a functional type to rehabilitation, draining or decontracting depending on the problem; is a kinesitherapic treatment that enhances the benefit of the mud therapy session. It improves blood circulation, tissue trophism and promotes muscle relaxation.
The applications, within the average of twelve for each therapeutic cycle, must be done on the morning on an empty stomach. In case of pregnancy or particular pathologies it is recommended to get a medical consultation before the treatment.
